Dorraj argues that, despite Iran’s insistence that its pursuit of nuclear energy is primarily intended as an energy source for a growing population, the primary factors informing Iranian nuclear ambitions are political. Increasingly the Iranian government sees its survival linked to the possession of a credible deterrent.
