The article explores the One Belt One Road initiative (BRI) of China which aims to stimulate economic development as of January 2017. A background of BRI is provided which was established in 2013 that would create a network of infrastructure worldwide that are linked to China. Topics include the lack of understanding of BRI’s strategic motivations, its implications for the Eurasian continent, and China’s motivations and purposes for BRI. Also discussed are China’s efforts to secure its continental backyard, the leadership of President Xi Jinping, and Chinese exceptionalism.
