Abstract
The article discusses the history of research and development of drone aircraft by the U.S. Navy from 1919-1939. The 1923-1924 development and one test flight of a radio-controlled drone by electrical engineer Carlos Mirick and the Naval Research Laboratory Radio Division is examined. The creation of the N2C-2 drone aircraft used as target planes by the Navy in the late 1930s is discussed.
